I can't get enough of it, those brilliant golden leaves, the reds and the oranges.
And I know I'd better breathe it in deeply.
We live in Michigan. We know what comes next!
So, my Michigan color tour takes us to a few places close to where I live.
All those big brights above are from the campus of Michigan State University. I really haven't hit it at peak and all of these were more or less "drive by shootings" (I did pull into the parking lot for one!) I was glad there wasn't traffic behind me -- or the ever present MSU police!
As many of you know, I've been down for the count for the past three weeks with bronchitis and not getting out nearly so much as I would have liked. So after I picked up some cough syrup at the pharmacy the other day, I couldn't resist a bit of a ride in the country.
I often pass this old cemetery on the way to getting my hair cut and I have to say, some of the color was the prettiest anywhere.
And it had such mood. I couldn't help but think it wouldn't be a bad spot to be laid to rest.
If you didn't know it was fall from the color, you would know it from looking at the ground.
One of my favorite sounds is that of crunching leaves!
As you can see below, our color is very mixed so far. I'm still seeing lots of green from my window and wondering if perhaps those trees don't turn and I've just forgotten.
And yet, what is there is clearly beautiful. No arguments, no complaints.
Golf courses always seem to be so well manicured. This one was perfect in the late afternoon light.
I have to admit, there is nothing like afternoon sun with its long shadows and calm reflections to bring out the best in a color palette!
I leave you with yet another visit to the ditch.
It was late afternoon when I was there and as you can see, the foliage is dropping and there are views that aren't so easily visible when the trees are fully frocked.
No recent Harry or Ella sightings since the last post. The water birds that go south may be well on their way, despite our warm weather that's only recently started to cool.
The ducks, however, were there to greet me and more or less made a beeline to my side of the pond.
And while I was too breathless to make my regular walk, I did stroll a bit and it was so peaceful and so exquisitely beautiful, I felt at least a little bit healed.
The photo below is my favorite from that mini-walk, straight from the camera.
I hope that no matter where you live, and whether it is autumn or spring, that you are celebrating the season and all it's beauty.
Yes, I miss those pinks of apple blossoms, cherry trees and magnolias and the golden burst of the first daffodils, but I am getting my gold elsewhere these days. And it is good.
We can't get enough of it either. During our ride today, heavenly. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteHappy Oogie Boogie Day.
Beautiful. I love seeing those trees. I hope you get feeling better, soon! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon. The photos are beautiful. I'm hoping I'll see color on my drive home on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteDear Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear you have been sick.. Three weeks? You take care of yourself, hope you are better very soon.
The trees and colors are music to my soul.. We do not have the change of seasons here, I so enjoy viewing the beauty here.
Blessings to you,
Penny
Michigan foliage is really at its peak now! We drove out to the southwest of Ann Arbor yesterday and some of the reds and yellows were breathtaking -- along with greens and browns of many hues and differing intensities. Your photos are lovely.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon and enjoy!

Just beautiful, Jeanie!
ReplyDeleteWe indeed must treasure every season, though some we love more than others. I love seeing your colors in Michigan. What a pretty cemetery too.
Wow, Jeanie--those pictures are amazing and the COLORS!!--so glorious! I'm glad you are feeling some better and able to get out! With scenery like that--one would certainly feel so much better just seeing it.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to read that you have not been well, and saddened to learn you've been sick for three weeks. I sincerely hope you will soon be on the mend.
ReplyDeleteYour colors are fantastic, and the trees you shared are remarkable. The trees in my neighborhood are so confused. It's been so hot here (in fact we've broken all time records several times this month) the trees think it's still summer. But somehow, they are also starting to lose their leaves due to our very high winds. It's weird to see green and brown leaves together on the ground. We don't get the beautiful reds, oranges, and yellows you get. Our tree leaves go from green to brown. It was wonderful that you shared these incredible beauties with us.
Wonderful photo of your great autumn colours - it is a fantastic time, to be sure. It's my fave season because of the colours. Have a good, new week, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tour of your favorite places..in this month..the most beautiful artist's palette.
ReplyDeleteI adore it also.
we have a cemetary close by ..old 1800s..certainly not medieval..but older than me..is right on the water and I have thought what a spot ..finally waterfront..but in another world..so peaceful and pretty..take care of that bronchitis Jeanie.
Just so beautiful☺ Love the ducks in the pond ♥
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of the leaves, too. This cool weather we've had in the last week or so -- the air has been good to breathe, and the crunch and smell of the leaves..... So nice.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fall colors. I think you aren't quite as past peak as we are, so I really enjoyed seeing the colors again! I hate having bronchitis. Its going around here as I know several people who have or had it. I've got a chest cold too, am hoping it doesn't go any further than that. So take care of yourself and relax. Drink lots of hot tea with with honey and lemon, as one of my friends told me last night. :) Read a good book or several good books as therapy and take care of yourself. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteJeanie I never tire of these beautiful fall colors pics. We are in a drought here, no rain since August. Everything is dried out so I doubt we'll have our usual pretty November here. I enjoy seeing the scenery from your state and always the ducks. Do take care, bronchitis is no fun, I know, had my share of it. Thanks for the tour. Hope you enjoy a Happy Halloween...........
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Your pics remind me of my foliage road trip of last year. So gorgeous, scenery which i don't get to enjoy here in Cowtown. Trees are all bare, sky overcast most of the time, and occasional snow. Your blog is a much needed respite for me.
ReplyDeleteOh what a beautiful post with all of Fall colors. The leaves are stunning and so vibrant. All of your photo's are amazing. thanks so much for sharing. Here in So CA we do not get the beautiful fall foliage that you do.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry that you have bronchitis, please take care of yourself as it can go into pneumonia. I can at least expect bronchitis one a year and that lead into COPD, so please take care of yourself.
Happy Halloween and don't eat to much candy like I did yesterday.
Mary
We are actually at our peak here in the TWin Cities and it's unbelievable. I too can't get enough! How I love spring and fall because they are the two transitions into the longer hot and cold extremes. LONG LIVE AUTUMN!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that you are battling bronchitis. That is awful and especially when you already have trouble with your lungs. I hope you are on the mend soon. There are some nasty bugs going around. I know people all over the U.S. who are dealing with awful respiratory bugs and all of them seem to be viral so antibiotics do no good. I hope the cough syrup is helping and that you are able to sleep ok at night!
ReplyDeleteYour fall colors are stunning! Our season is really late this year, I think due to all of the rain we've had. The colors aren't as vibrant as other falls when it was dryer but I'll take what I can get. I love walking on the crunching leaves, too!! It's nice to have pretty things to look at whether you are looking down or looking up!
Oh I thorougly enjoyed seeing all the beautiful foliage in your corner. Looks as if you have a few more weeks to enjoy it, too. And I grinned to learn that you find ditches as filled with beautiful colors as anywhere. Feel better asap!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're still sick, but glad you were feeling up for a bit of a walk to enjoy the sunshine and Fall colours.
ReplyDeletethank you so much Jeanie and Im so glad you enjoyed the post! I do love the research and get (happily) stuck in it for HOURS. Their world was so so so DIFFERENT from what we have today. It just boggles the mind how different. Hope you're feeling better today!
ReplyDeleteJeanie, this was just what I needed this morning! I miss all the gorgeous fall colors. We have some but nothing like where you live. This is my favorite time of year and Mother Nature sure knows how to dress to impress!
ReplyDeleteLovely pics.
ReplyDeleteFall is such a pretty time of year, isn't it?
I know what you mean about not getting enough of this beautiful Autumn we are in, Jeanie. Your pictures are fantastic and show nature at its finest. Love the duck picture and the one of the sun peeking through the clouds.
ReplyDeleteHappy November!
~Sheri
just wanted to tell you that those were Jess' pics of Halloween at her home. She used some of the decorations left over from her wedding, and she had some clever ideas.
gorgeous autumn colors and sights
ReplyDeletemakes me miss the height of color which has past around here
I'm just taking in a lungful of your fresh air too... and knowing fresh air will be hard to come by for me next year it's beautiful! What a glorious Fall you are having, the photos are great for showing the richness of autumn. I'm sorry that you have been off-colour yourself Jeanie. Hoping you are well on the mend now.

I traveled 4,000 miles, and never saw color like that. Of course, it's so unpredictable. I was early in some places and late in others. Still, it's hard not to be envious of such beauty. I'm hoping that, since we still are so green here, there will be a nice cold snap that brings us some color, too.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you still were fighting that bronchitis. I remember you mentioning it, but it was only a little mention. You've been sick the whole time of my trip! I hope you're feeling better now, and that the beauty around you truly is helping you to heal.
Your fall color is gorgeous. Fall is my favorite season. Our leaves haven't turned yet since it is still very warm but they are brown and falling because of the drought.
ReplyDeleteYou captured the golden light of fall illuminating that lovely color palette, Jeanie. I'm sorry you're still having lung issues. Sending you a hug from CO.
