Think small. Very sharp. unless you are looking for a more painterly effect. Able to see great distances clearly. Equally able to creatively interpret any subject in a variety of ways.
I have a new camera!
The object of my affection is a Canon SX170 that fits into my pocket or purse, has a 30x zoom and more effects than I can count!
I've been playing with its effects and rather delighted with the one pictured above that takes several different creative views of a subject with one snap -- color, black and white, tinted, even a water color effect. (I'm still trying to find that one as a specifically selected option!)
The zoom is fabulous. The view below shows us about 30 feet from that back wall. High on the wall, on the right. A bit to the left of that large white poster are are some hats with price tags.
Anyone want to buy a hat?
How about checking on the speaker's facial features?
OK -- Silly pix (and probably a bit shaky given the full zoom and handheld) but hey, it's a new camera! Do you realize how this could come in handy? Why, when I tried it out at Best Buy I was at least a half block from some boxes on a shelf and when photographed, I could read the contents! I see many sneaky applications for this!
I thought I'd really try putting it to work with my favorite subject.
She's not a particularly willing model, but she'll do in a pinch! OK, I confess, she'll more than do!
And the selfies aren't bad, either!
Can't wait till Harry the Heron returns from his winter in the South!
Whew - a new camera - I thought you replaced Rick! Have fun playing. MIne has so many features, too, but I'm mostly not using them these days. Your photos are very crisp and sharp - nice!
ReplyDeleteVery cool, this was fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun new toy! I'm impressed with the quality of the photos where you have really zoomed in! Can't wait to see pics of Harry this spring!
ReplyDeleteI don't really use a camera right now which is kind of sad. I have a VERY dated digital camera that takes horrible photos (and should probably be tossed). I think some day I'd like a DLSR (or whatever the acronymn is for those fancier cameras - too lazy to google it!) but I don't take photos enough to warrant purchasing one just yet...
Very cool and fun. I will look forward to seeing the progression of your romance in the photos you post on your blog.
ReplyDeleteReally fun post . . .
ReplyDeleteYou may have convinced me . . . I was looking at cameras yesterday!
Looks like a beauty! And lots of fun, too! So happy to see you playing with your new toy.... looking forward to all the new pics to come!
ReplyDeleteYour new camera is truly great, I also could fall in love with it ... your selfie is so stunning !!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your evening and the new week ahead, sweet Jeanie,
sending dear love to you
Daniela
You have tried an amazing range of options so fast, I'm impressed. The trick is to internalize all those options, which I've hardly done with my camera at all. But to get better crispness on telephoto shots, you need to support it from underneath, which isn't in my normal way of taking photos. If you can brace it somehow it helps too. I'm just mastering long-range shots of birds and animals, which are usually moving while you are trying to focus.

Your photos look wonderful. I just looked up a couple of reviews of this camera, and they are very enthusiastic about its features. My small camera isn't working very well since I dropped it a couple of years ago, and the big one is just too...big. This looks like a good potential investment! Wonder if I can find a buyer for my big, ambitious Canon.
ReplyDeleteHow fun and exciting to learn something new with a camera. I love playing with mine.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great selfie!!
It's fun to play with a new camera. Yours is superb.
ReplyDeleteSuch fun! Great photos. Enjoy your pictures.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have great fun with this one! I especially would appreciate the zoom, since my new Canon is going to require a different lens for that sort of photo. On the other hand, I came home from a full day in the outdoors yesterday and was more than pleased with some of the photos I got using the manual settings. For the first time, I thought to myself, "Maybe I can begin to figure this out!"
ReplyDeleteI laughed at your Best Buy reference. There are some things a "real" camera can do that a camera phone can't. And while Lizzie's a wonderful model, I confess I'm eager to see Harry, close up and personal. It's funny -- I think my camera will do those effects, too, but I haven't even experimented with them. You are going to have such fun documenting the arrival of spring.
Ho-ly cats! The zoom is magnificent! Bar codes and eyelashes from the back of the room.
ReplyDeleteWith YOUR keen eye for the shot, the moment ... this is gonna be a beautiful relationship.
So happy for you! Yay, Jeanie Canon Croope
Oh what fun it is to play with a new toy. Have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun new gadget. Great pix, especially for such a small camera. Enjoy in good health!!! Looking forward to more pix.
ReplyDeleteI thought you would love getting close to your new camera! I am thinking about another camera myself, something a little smaller than what I'm always caring around. Keep the pics and fun coming. Thanks for sharing this info…...
ReplyDeleteHow fun to have a new toy. I love that you are playing and finding fun things to do with it. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI had planned to get here sooner, but lack of a computer that didn't freeze up all the time kept me off the internet for days. Now that I'm back on, I was thrilled to see the ducks on the pond in your previous post, then simply SHOCKED when I saw all that snow you had gotten. I agree it's been the most incredible winter, and blame it on the fact that El Nino winds are causing the jet stream to be at a higher latitude this year. That's MY story and I'm sticking with it (grin).
ReplyDeleteLove the effects you get with your new camera. I thought you had a nice camera before from the looks of your previous photos, but this one has a lot more whistles and bells and a ZOOM that is to die for. I only wish I had ONE subject that would sit still long enough to allow me to photograph him. But neither of mine are camera lovers. My first cat, whose name was Dog, would POSE for me until he heard the snap of the camera. I guess I got really spoiled because I could take photos of him anytime I wanted to. But these two would rather run and hide than let me get a photo of them. You have a beautiful subject, too.
BTW, those statues remind me of some I have that I use for rusting fabric and paper. They dance, too and are probably about that same size. Mine are around 7 inches tall.
I forgot to mention that I agree with you on gel medium, but for some art that must hold, I have found E6000 keeps things in place. Even buttons don't hold as well for me with gel medium as E6000 does. I also like if I get too much on and it oozes, once it's dry, all I have to do is roll the excess off the substrate. I can't say that about gel medium. Of course, I prefer gel medium for lighter things, like heavy papers and some fabric.
ReplyDeleteMy friend Sally, who knows NOTHING about art, was shocked when I told her how many adhesives I needed for a single project I made for her. I used everything from glue sticks, glue dots, adhesive tape, gel medium, white glue, fabric glue, and E6000. Each had a specific purpose for a special need. We crafters probably have a lot more glue and adhesives than we think about, don't we?
I'm glad you love your camera so much. I hope the two of you have many happy years together. ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanie! Oh, that sounds like a wonderful camera and what a zoom! :) You're gonna have lots of fun! You can even sneak up on stuff! Sneaking is always good. Look at you being all cute and stuff!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Ohhh congrats on your new toy Jeanie!
ReplyDeleteA good zoom is priceless isn't it :-)
oxo
You are already having great fun with your new toy. The photos are indeed very sharp. Unless, of course, you want them not to be sharp. Have fun! I'm impressed with the quality.
