So, what is summertime to me? Well, I'm back from the lake after a glorious week of perfect weather, and I have some answers!
Well, it's the lake, a crescent moon...
... a stunning sunset.
It's strawberries and shortcake.
It's ducks sunning themselves on the neighbor's dock.
This one seemed to have rather a big smile on its face!
It's beach flowers -- what is this, anyway?
And woodland flowers (OK, weeds, but they are flowers to me).
It's road trips to charming shops.
It's yard art! (Yes, to Rick this is functional yard art!)
It's tradition -- the annual July 4 Ride for Rick.
It's potato salad.
It's delicious dinners from the grill...
...and time for a glass of wine.
It's fireworks.
They were shot off right across the lake from us -- a perfect ringside seat!
It's watching swimming races across the lake on July 4. (Thank you, Zoom.)
It's having plenty of time for cat naps.
And time to meet up with a friend and former student worker who was waitressing at a wonderful northern restaurant!
Summertime means opportunities to finally getting to the art table -- I'll show you the results of that later!
I'll have more soon and be catching up with you soon, as well! Meanwhile, catch up on my take on the final work by a favorite author -- "A Big Storm Knocked it Over" by Laurie Colwin -- on Chopsticks and String.

Beautiful Jeanie....your pictures and comments have captured the heart of summer.
Your summer looks perfect. Food, fun, friends, and fireworks! What more could you want??
A lovely post, Jeanie! Everything looks so idyllic! I feel like I've had a wonderful virtual vacation in your area of paradise. Thank you!!
Looks like you've got it all -- every summer pleasure! Beautiful pictures, Jeanie! Glad you had the chance to store up that lakeside feeling...
Ahhh, the joys of summer. I think you captured them all.
Jeanie, Sounds like you and Rick had a blast. You're lucky Rick's bike is yard art - Bob's often sits against the wall in our city dining room!
thanks for sharing all of this
delicious summery sweetness

these are beautiful! Love your new background, too....
I am so glad that you had a great getaway. Makes up for that horrible winter weather, doesn't it? I spent 2 weekends at my parents' cabin in June so I can totally relate to this post. I won't be back there until the end of July but I am already looking forward to more lake time. :)
Beautiful pictures, Jeanie! How did you take the crescent moon? All the other ones are lovely, esp. the sunset and the fireworks. Our July 1 Canada Day has less fanfare, although Kate and William did make some ripples... ;)
so many luscious pictures - how did you get anything else done?
so impressed by rick suiting up and doing the July 4 race/ride!
that picture of the Gyp is darling - look at those little pink paw pads!
Yup, that duck is smiling all right!
Me, too, having enjoyed this entry and seeing you and your friend at the restaurant.
Was our trip to chicago a hundred years ago? Yeah, I know. I exaggerrate (sp?) But it does seem like ages ago.
Looking forward to those art pics, possibly in your next entry?
Very HAPPY to be stopping by here to share of you summer sweetness, Jeanie... Summer sure looks good in your part of the world. Oh, I am actually launching a new blog today, with new creative focus--I'm very excited about it. In a few weeks I'll be closing Pink Purl. Thanks for visiting me there. :o)
Looks like summer to me!
It looks like great summer fun, and I can almost taste the potato salad. Yummm.
Great fabulous photos.
I especially like the garden art of bird houses. I have a collection that I love. Can't have too many birdhouses!
Sweet pix of Gyspy.
Happy fun days to you.

These photos captured the essence of summer! By the way, I once read an interesting definition of a weed. It's any plant that is growing where it's not supposed to. So, a rose bush could be a weed. Since these beautiful woodland flowers were growing in the woods, I'd say they are not weeds!
Love it! You captured summertime at the cottage perfectly! xoxo
Gorgeous! This is the kind of summer I dream of. And an art table looking out on the lake with a dock too - swoon! Do dreams come true? I would be taking so many pictures on that dock, sitting with an Adirondack chair right there.
Thanks for the armchair trip to the lake :) It looks wonderfully relaxing, and everything a summer home should be!
ahhh you captured the essence of summer so beautifully
the smiling duck says it all LOL
