Pizza is something of a birthday tradition in the family. When they were kids, it was always DeLuca's pizza -- and sometimes it still is!But this night it was pizza at home, dough from scratch and made by Greg and his brother Kevin. (This may be one of my favorite pictures of all time!)
Of course, everyone has their topping favorites -- garlic...Peppers and onions...
And plenty of sausage and pepperoni, too.After, the cake. This is the Pineapple Carrot Cake in the King Arthur Flower Baking Book with a standard cream cheese frosting with ginger and lemon zest in it. If you want the recipe, let me know -- it takes a bit of time, but it's well worth the effort.
I did this in an oblong cake pan, divided in half and stacked to layer. It looked fantastic but was a little clumsy -- I was just glad it stayed upright in transport!
We're still at the point with the kids where all the candles still fit, though it took an army (Rick, the boys and Molly) to get it blazing in time.
One big blow, one big wish.
My wish for Greg -- that he discover how to channel his talent and get the discipline to implement it so that it will bring him the success he deserves!
Family celebrations are always a joy. And, you're right; you're not aging any.

ReplyDeleteI'm just laughing out loud. My aunt from Kansas City's been here for a week, and I'm driving the pair of Miss Daisies around. Mom's 93, her sister 85. I look at them and wonder, "Why am I the only one getting older around here?" ;-)

Aw, that is so fun that you had a family birthday celebration! I miss having those with my parents - they don't happen very often now that I moved away.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great shot of the boys! I have this obsession w/ photos of the backs of people. I can't really put my finger on why... I have all these photos of my dad or nephews sitting on the dock, and i prefer to take them from behind v. looking at them!

ReplyDeleteYou don't get any older because you are young at heart. My oldest child is 40 (gulp) and his turning that age was harder on me than any birthday I have ever had. It is all good as long as we can keep having fun family celebrations.
