Last year on this very day, November 14, 2009, the sky was blue, it was unseasonably warm, and as I went on an art buying excursion, I passed by this beautiful barn in the country. It was a perfect day where nothing could go wrong.
Two hours later, this is what I saw...
My biker boy Rick, who rides like the wind, flattened. So many of you sent kind wishes on the blog, phoned, put us on your prayer lists. It was extraordinarily comforting to be wrapped in the blanket of love this blog community provided.
One year later, Rick has ridden about 6,500 miles on the seat of that very crashed up bike.
He's gone up mountains, down hills, and if he's been off the seat of the bike, he's kept quiet about it.
For which I am grateful. As I am grateful for his recovery, your support and the joy it gives me to see him doing what he loves.
Ride on!
Hey, Jeanie! I can't believe it's been a year already. Honestly.
ReplyDeleteI loved your line: if Rick has been out of his seat, he's been quiet about it." Phew. And that's an amazing amount of miles he's logged since then.
I wonder how many miles I walk in a year?
Enjoying your Thanksgiving entries though I haven't shown up every day - but I'm here, and thinking of you, 'specially as I know you're working on your art.
Bravo, bravo, bravo.
More later--
Oh
Actually, to me it seems like it was much longer ago than a year! Wow. What a scary experience. And he seemingly has no scars from it.
ReplyDeleteOh my, how scary! I am so happy he came through it and is riding again. That is one thing that does scare me about bikes (husband and son)and scooters (daughter)and skateboards (daughter's boyfriend). But I guess we can't live in fear, but just do the best we can each day to take care and live live fully. Take care and so glad you had prayers before I knew you.
ReplyDeleteAn auspicious day. Time and perserverence have worked their magic.
ReplyDeleteThe medicinal properties of time are just amazing .... hard to believe Rick's ridden 6500 miles since then. Of course, I think it's hard to believe the amount of art you've produced since your shoulder injury, as well. Remarkable people, both you. So glad these injuries are all long behind you now!
ReplyDeleteHello Jeanie, I happened by here from somewhere else. I've enjoyed reading several of your posts and getting to know you a bit. I just wanted to say, my husband is also an avid biker (200-300 miles a week) and fell about a month ago. He was unconscious, with hematoma but no lasting damage, thank goodness. He's also back in the saddle.
ReplyDeleteSuch a scary time for both of you - glad it's over and becoming a part of the distant past.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanie. That was before I knew you, too. So glad he recovered and is still riding. Your post immediately made me think of Forrest Gump....how he just kept running and running and running, until he felt like stopping! :)
ReplyDeleteAt first I looked at your post quickly and thought he crashed again! Phew! Thank God that was just me looking at the photos and not reading.

I remember when you first blogged this and it was so scary to read it which means it was so much worse for you. I'm glad a year on it's all behind you and you're right grateful is a fitting word. That is some mileage as well. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSo, so SO VERY glad for his recovery. God is good.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's been a year. I just can't.
ReplyDeleteSo good to see these new photos, and be grateful all over again for a blessed ending to a terrible event.
hopefully this will be a distant memory ... I remember when it happened...a year ago already!
