What Would Halloween Be Without Elvis?

We had a splendid holiday and I hope you did too!

Rick came over and served up candy to the kids (not too many this year -- surprising as it was so nice!)
I made chili and the house was festive.

Even Gyppy looked dapper with his bow tie -- though it's a little hard to see here.

Then we went off to the Cadillac Club with our friends Paul and Bonnie.

Bonnie came as a picnic -- one of the best costumes ever (and I wish I had a full view of it!). This great checked dress and straw hat and food and bugs and napkins were stuck on everywhere! It was fabulous!

And Paul was ready for Jimmy Buffet (one of the impersonator acts) in a great grass skirt and parrot hat.

Rick was Lance Armstrong (or Frazz) and Diane from work loaned me a costume to be the wicked Sleeping Beauty Queen.

(It's a far cry from my FIRST Halloween photo!)

But I was much cuter then! (And a couple years later!) I was probably contemplating my first diet in this picture...

But I digress... So, we think this is going to be a hopping party. I've had more people in my house -- including the staff. There were maybe 40.

But the costumes were fun (Pigs in a Blanket won). We thought Bonnie should have. I really wish you could see her skirt and props!

And then there was Elvis.

I imagine some mom writing her holiday letter: "Steve had a good year. His job as an Elvis impersonator is going well, with gigs in Lansing, Michigan and Akron, Ohio. Last year he went to Elvis camp where he learned some new moves."

So, Elvis walked the room, giving the ladies a scarf and a kiss. Everytime he gave one away, his assistant Cupcake (dressed as a witch) gave him another.

Hey, I can always do something with a strip of fabric!

Elton John (as George Washington) hosted the costume contest. Then dancing.

Meanwhile, as we were there with not a huge crowd, we kept seeing hip people come in and go down a rope line to another area. We decided they took one look at our costumes and said, "Geezer Party, to the Right, please."

But it was fun, and it was fun because we were with friends and if you can't laugh at an Elvis impersonator, a guy with bike clothes, a lady as a picnic, a guy in a grass skirt or an evil woman with a funky foam hat -- well, who can you laugh at?

  4. Darn. I wish I lived in YOUR neighborhood. What fun.

My sister sent me the wildest picture tonight. She won best of catagory "Scary" for her costume at work and THEN she won Best of Show!! She was a queen of the damned and WAS really scary. I would have never guessed it was her under all that make-up.
