Quite often we have the "weather advisory" scare show! Be afraid -- we're having a lot of snow! Leave early! Prepare to shovel! Don't drive! Cancel school! (We live in Michigan -- I'm not sure why they cancel school so often...)
So, earlier this week they were hawking bad news and the storm never materialized. (But school was cancelled -- wind chill, they said.) Last night when they promised more bad weather, it's easy to think it could be another false alarm!
As early in the morning as 4 a.m., no snow. By 8:30 a.m. -- Yikes!
These pix don't show it so well, but roads were a mess! (I hear they're better now, but another six inches is expected later today or tonight, so the weather-mavens say!) There was about four inches over a three- or four-hour period. These paper boxes are in a somewhat covered area...
And look! It's snowing sideways! (I hate it when it snows sideways -- it's never good...) Rick is very lucky to be in Portland this week!
Send good vibes to my friend Suzanne who is flying today from Toronto to Chicago and then to Antarctica... As a work colleague said, "why leave, when the snow is here!"
I feel hot cocoa and a good book coming on...

On another note...
I been speaking recently of my Unfinished Object (UFO) -- here's a look at Phase Two... I felted the front and back of the would-be sweater. You can see it here next to the unfelted sleeve. The unfelted parts look very bright. It doesn't show as much in the photo, but the felted piece is quite muted.
Next step will be cutting it up and doing something with it. I've heard or thought about the following ideas -- purses (I'm trying to psych myself up for sewing through a half-inch of felted wool, but am leaning this way to make at least one!); a table mat or mats; coasters (possibly with the ribbing); coin purses; tea mats... any other ideas out there? (I still haven't ruled out a cat-bed for Gypsy Rose!)
Other ideas for your felted fabric .. cut it into shapes for applique.
ReplyDelete(Those colors suggest a dragon's wing to me, but even a string of
hearts appliqued on a sweater or jacket in those hues could be lovely.)
We were told we were under a Winter Storm warning to begin last night at 7PM...nothing, nada, zilch...till just now...NOW it is snowing....sigh.....
ReplyDeleteAnonymous -- Great idea about the applique! I could see that! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTammy -- good luck on your weather! Keep warm!
I'm back...after seeing these pictures and looking outside to see the snow actually coming down sideways...arggg...I went and made me a cuppa and am enjoying it with my biscotti! *smile*
ReplyDeleteCan you believe that our overall total so far this winter is just shy of 60 inches !
ReplyDeleteSo I say the same thing, "tell me why again I live in Wisconsin?"
and.....of course we are getting more on Monday and Tuesday...with a little rain mixed in just for fun !!
oh yeah, and that sideways snow. That's not a good thing !
Burrr. Looks cold. I wish we had just one good snowstorm here before spring. Wahhhhhh. Love the felty sweater. I want to do that soooo bad. Did you just wash it and wash it in hot water???? Stay warm! (and safe driving!!)
ReplyDeleteBrr..I'm quite tired of snow. I do hope that the groundhog gives us a prognostication I can love!
ReplyDeleteLove the sweater colors. Looks great! I'm so basic.

Call me strange, but I actually like snow. I was born and raised in Iowa, so it doesn't bother me at all. It's a simple fact of life there. We could use some more in the panhandle here, too. We still need the lakes filled and some ground water.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog, Jeanie. :)
Hi!..THanks for coming over! ...Yes.I have a fondness for orange cats..I have had 4 over the years. Tripp is the only cat now. but I also have a Greyhound. I hate to tell you this..but it is 70 degrees here.
ReplyDeleteps: I have to also tell you that it is unbearably hot and humid here in the summer...horrible.
ReplyDeleteWowza,,what a snow storm. We have had some wild weather here this week too. And in for another round of severe storms on tuesday. Folks here in the south hate on the weathermen when the predict snow and it doesn't happen. Its hard to predict here. We did get a nice ice storm on Thursday morning. Hope your having a great week-end and I love your ideas for your UFO.
