I can't imagine anything more fun than wine tasting with people who have a sense of humor in their descriptions (cat urine?)

I don't care for wine that tastes like it should be poured over pancakes (SWEET!) and I DO prefer reds. I have 3 wineries within 15 miles of wehre I live. This is a german settled area. But my favorite wine is $2.95 a bottle at Super Walmart. Not too dry, not too sweet and I can stomach the white. Called "Oak Leaf" I think. It's the only way I can afford a "wine cellar". heehee.

Loved reading all of your reviews.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03274493238689132223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5681875145919050501.post-746533789845990582011-06-01T19:09:11.806-04:002011-06-01T19:09:11.806-04:00Nice post.

We seldom drink red wine from Germany, because we prefer the French or Italien red wines...They are drier which we like much more. But there are some delicious white German wines which are very dry and taste especially in summer great. But not the sorts I found in your post......They are all much to sweet.Brrr...*lol*
I will send you the names of some very good German white wines, must first ask my husband, because I only drink it... don`t know the names...:-))
But I prefer red wine.
Have you seen the pictures of the wine mountains in one of my older post where we cycled along the Mosel??

Best wishes
IrisHerzBlatthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04721274445660345711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5681875145919050501.post-66718445391109945122011-06-01T07:10:56.378-04:002011-06-01T07:10:56.378-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.HerzBlatthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04721274445660345711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5681875145919050501.post-73861203288710473882011-05-31T12:34:15.571-04:002011-05-31T12:34:15.571-04:00Very interesting. Her father was a German immigrant and her Mom was half German. Their families, who were living in Arkansas and Missouri, respectively, moved here because there were already Germans living here. Anway, no vineyards remained in my lifetimes, although many people do have grape vines.jet1960https://www.blogger.com/profile/15745911621562105192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5681875145919050501.post-67559114234884339062011-05-31T11:38:27.510-04:002011-05-31T11:38:27.510-04:00I love wine recommendations. I love them, especially in the summertime, and also especially because they don't seem to trigger migraines, and also maybe especially because plus I don't think anything else pairs as well with caramelized onions and melted gruyere. No gewurztraminers? Sounds like you all had a wonderful evening -- perfect respite, great release from the art fair exertions.annohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05102616203481686227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5681875145919050501.post-33068315711057351882011-05-29T17:31:06.003-04:002011-05-29T17:31:06.003-04:00<(I learned at this point that sweet wine hasn&...<(I learned at this point that sweet wine hasn't fermented nearly so long as the dryer versions, so you can get things with the same grapes and have a totally different flavor.>

I didn't know this. Yeah, I know. Kind of a humdrum thing to do on a Sunday afternoon but you've spiced it up with some wines to look for. Because I have recently learned to enjoy a glass of wine! Who knew?
(I am also rather prone to chianti. No, really!)

And yes, the table looks GORGEOUS! Your post reminds me of two things, first our friend who always orders Pinot Noir because he says "I like it and I can pronounce it." Secondly, it reminds me of a young 21ish German student who worked for us one summer when we lived in a "dry" section of NE Texas. When he asked where he could buy some beer and we told him the concept of "dry" he just could not wrap his mind around it ~ so funny. The table setting is lovely too. Sorry I wrote a book, blessings to you sweet gal.Ragamuffin Galhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16003794501642840802noreply@blogger.com
