Spring, Maybe? The Bunnies are Back!

The calendar tells us it is officially spring. I've got to go with that because otherwise, it's just too depressing!

So, on a remarkably warm (60 degree) day, I headed down to the Ditch for a look around, For the most part, nothing had changed much since my last visit, but I did notice this unique pine. I'm guessing it survived the tornado but with definite scoliosis to its trunk. Still, it looks healthy, just odd. (NOTE: I stand corrected! Tom, who knows such things, says this is a spruce, not a pine!)

I wasn't the only one there. Dog walkers and families were out, this group enjoying the various informational signs that popped up last year.

Back on the home front, we are girding the loins for a fun visit this weekend with our grandguys. We'll be celebrating (belatedly) Carson's birthday. We also have an early Easter egg hunt planned, since we won't be together on the holiday. And we'll work on the Lego kit Cam gave me for Christmas. As you may recall, (mostly) Cam and I built a cat.

A paraplegic cat, unfortunately, because after he left, I was entrusted with finishing it and I must have messed up somewhere because I couldn't get the last leg to fit no matter what I tried. The kit lets you build a dog and bird, too, so we'll see what comes from it!

There are definite signs of spring in my territory, though. Mini-daffs are beginning to bloom, as are the dwarf irises. I love these wee plants, only about three inches tall.

Inside I've ramped up the seasonal decor too.  This is my kitchen shelf.

The bunnies are back. So, too, is a beautiful photo of a Cotswold cottage with an abundance of wisteria, along with a couple of small watercolors by my friend Kate. My late photographer friend, Wally Parshall, did the photo and it is one I treasure.

The egg tree came out for its annual appearance.

This one is always filled with such memories of Mom and me making some of the eggs on the tree. We would huff and puff as we blew them out from small needle holes on each end. This was before the suction tube people can use now!

And then they came up with satiny styrofoam eggs. No more blowing!

This one took a roll of trim and mom cut out all the flowers, then glued them on individually and added the tiny pearls. She had a lot more patience than I did!

I love rabbits. So, they are all over the house!

My friend Maryanne gave me this one. It's a bank. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of change in there right now.

All rabbits have a home with me!

Meanwhile, I leave you with my Pendelfin bunnies, enjoying a concert.

Happy Easter and Passover week to those who celebrate!

  2. Well you certainly created an Easter Wonderland in your home with so many lovely bunnies and eggs. I love the one you made with your mom with the flowers and pearls. It must take such care to keep them from breaking. I'm sure you and the boys will enjoy the Easter egg hunt you have planned.

  3. Dear Jeanie, when you mentioned scoliosis, it reminded me of a friend of mine who actually has this condition! But then I looked at your photo of the tree! Yes, I can see how you would choose this condition to describe that poor tree!
I love all the little ornaments in your photos! Absolutely delightful!
    The irises are gorgeous!
Your paraplegic cat, dog and bird kit sounds like fun!
Of course I don't have such talent in crafts and models, but I absolutely love seeing the creations and finishes of those who have this talent!
Thank you so much for sharing, dear friend.

  4. Jeanie you have a beautiful collection of bunnies. I love them all. The walkway at the ditch with the benches and informational boards along the walk looks very inviting. I'm glad you and your grandsons are enjoying doing legos together. It's never been something I had occasion to do or try. I've never heard of or seen mini daffs or irises. They'd be just the right height for small vases around the house. Enjoy the spring season ahead. Hopefully it will warm up for you and me soon. xx

  5. I think your pine tree looks like a grinch tree!!! I hope someone with a lift puts one red ball on the tip next Christmas!
Have fun with the grands! I am hopeless with legos.

  6. It's fun to see all your bunnies. You definitely have some fun spring spirit. And as you said, you need to force it this year because winter still hasn't totally left. It was 60 today, and wow, it felt good. But then this weekend we'll be back in the 30's with wind chills probably in the 20's. Holy cow. I think I need more bunnies. Grin. Have fun with the grands, and enjoy those flowers too. hugs-Erika

  7. ...Jeanie, your unique "pine" with definite scoliosis to its trunk is a spruce! Happy spring.

  8. I haven’t seen any little irises yet this year. Yours look just beautiful. I hope it will soon be better weather here.

  10. The first day of spring is a national holiday in Japan. It looks like a big holiday at your house! The dwarf irises are so sweet!

  11. Such a gentle, quietly joyful glimpse of early spring where a resilient, slightly crooked tree, playful mishaps with a Lego build, and the return of bunnies all weave together into something warmly lived-in and full of anticipation.

  12. Your egg tree is beautiful and I love your memories of making Easter eggs with your mom. I think that's very special.

  13. Those hand made eggs are wonderful. It must have been such fun making them with your mother and I think you have kept them in such good condition. When I was younger I wasn't careful with my possessions.

  15. I love the rabbits- I have several, too, but with everything going on this year I did not dig them out. There are a couple that I keep out for yearly display though. We used to do a lot of those eggs, too, and I have several from my husband's grandmother. I gave my egg tree and all the 'trimmings' to my daughter a couple of years ago when we moved and I love that she has it. LOL about the "pine" tree. Tom would know-lol. He's a good guy! Have a great weekend- xo Diana

  19. I was about to point out that the pine is a spruce, but Tom beat me to it! I am amazed that you are finding spring depressing. Every day, despite the weather, even, signs are everywhere. Downright uplifting if you ask me.

  20. Oh, it looks so festive and Springy in your place! Here it´s but 1C/33F, my legs are icy cold still from Grocery shopping.
Love the lego cat, too and had no idea trees can, like humans have scoliosis, but why not. Have a festive season and fun Birthday-party and Easter-egg hunt!

  21. Your bunnies definitely have brought spring into your house, regardless of the weather outside. Now I have to get in gear and get our place looking more springlike than winter.

  24. Looks like spring has sprung. The boys will have a great time. The Lego cat is terrific. Love the bunnies. One can never have too many.

  25. Jeanie I love all your rabbits but especially the Pendelfin bunnies, they are adorable....as are your dwarf blue iris. I don't believe I have ever seen 3 inch tall iris before, and I hail from the midwest where we called all blue iris 'wild flags' and treated them as weeds! LOL....When I grew up I realized how beautiful they could be and I raised a lot of hybrids such as pink, yellow, white and multicolored...just loved them. Of course we can't grow them down here in Florida so I have to love them virtually through my friends such as yourself. Funny story of blowing eggs...I quit doing that once when I sucked in instead of blowing out. 🥰🌸🦋🐇🐰

  26. Hi Jeanie! My grandsons will be coming in this weekend and will stay through Easter, so I can relate to the fun that can be. I love all your Easter decorations, but feel sad that I have not had time to put mine out yet. I had to clear out our laundry room, as we got a new washer and dryer, so the stuff we store there is now in our den - ugh! Anyway, everything will be back in place by the time my oldest daughter comes in, so she'll make sure the house looks festive for Easter.

  27. Your weather is way ahead of ours. today is frigid @ -10C. A few crocuses managed to open, but they succumbed right away.

  28. Hi Jeanie. I know a visit to the ditch is always interesting, such as the spruce! Your collections of bunnies are quite lovely. One can never have too many bunnies as long as they are not the flower munching kind. I know the visit from the grands will be so much fun! Enjoy every moment!

  32. Certainly looks like spring with all the hippity hop Bunnies about.
The spruce must be related to the leaning tower. :)
    Love the Lego kitty.

  35. I thought my junior cat Drudge, whose legs probably aren't going to catch up with the rest of him, might appreciate seeing at least a Lego sculpture of a cat with an even bigger head and even shorter legs, relative to its body, than he has. Drudge did not want to come in and look.

He has normal-sized legs, after all--they just have to support an otherwise large-sized cat.

  36. Ah, spring ... do you think it's here to stay? I have my fingers crossed. At any rate, you look ready for it! I love your bunnies and your Easter egg tree, and your iris are gorgeous. Enjoy your weekend with the grands, here's hoping for good weather!

  40. Those dwarf irises are cute as can be. I surely must have seen them at some point, but I don't remember ever coming across them. There's something about 'small' that's always appealing!

  45. I loved seeing all the delightful bunnies around your house, Jeanie. And I have that same Lambchop. Isn't she the cutest? Your framed picture of the wisteria is always a favorite of mine. It's so pretty. I'm glad you spent a day at the Ditch - there's always something interesting to see there. I know you will have lots of joy seeing the boys this weekend. Happy Spring Jeanie!

  46. I love the rabbit bank! Isn't a spruce a kind of pine? I always thought so.

  47. My mother had a dense swath of mini iris along one side of her house. I planted some but they refuse to bloom. Maybe this year?

  53. Easter is such a lovely holiday. We are all waiting for spring, at least here in the northern hemisphere. It looks very much like Sweden where you are. Even here the greens are starting to come out and there is hope for a sunny spring. Although we have a saying about spring weather ... not to be trusted.
Enjoy the holidays - HAPPY EASTER.

  54. These are so pretty. What wonderful memories for you.

  55. The mini iris's are so pretty. The Lego animals look beyond my capabilities. I understand a missing leg. Your Easter decor is wonderful. I love Easter/spring time decorations as much as Christmas.

  56. Love all the bunny decor. You're in the Easter spirit, nice to see!

  57. I love all of the decorations in your house - it makes it so festive! That egg w/ the florals glued on is beautiful. Your mom was very patient with great attention to detail!

Will got that same cat lego set for Christmas. He is not able to/interested in putting the sets together. He just wants to play with them, so Paul or i put them together. Paul started that set and I finished it. Most of the time something gets put together wrong and we have to go back and undo part of it to correct it. It takes a lot of patience and major attention to detail!

  58. Dear Jeanie, you have an adorable rabbit collection – and beautiful Easter eggs! I didn't feel like getting my suitcase full of lovely old eggs from the high shelf this year, so I only have a few ceramic bunnies for decoration. But one thing is for sure: Spring is on its way! Perhaps we don't feel it so much yet (it's gotten cold again here, too – it's supposed to be warmer on Easter Sunday, and then the temperatures will drop again...). But it will come!

That spruce tree has really been hit hard – let's hope it can stay standing!
I think it's really great that you made LEGO with your grandchild. That cat is very special! I've never seen LEGO sets like that...

Oh, and your dwarf irises are beautiful. Only one bloomed on my "flowering hill" this year, and it's already faded – unfortunately, because I love those flowers too!

    Happy Easter! 🌸🐣🐇🪺🐰
    All the best from Austria,
    Traude
