News from the Hood

It's been a busy week or two and good. It surprises me that we are now well into October. A beautiful season but too short!

But there are still plenty of sunny days!

So, a quick look at life in my neck of the woods, not in chronological order! It included...

A trip to Southern Exposure with my friend Kate to make an autumn door arrangement. As you may well know, this is one of my favorite places in all the world, and it was good to be back.

I'll have a full post on this soon!

And at home, I've been trying to get my garden in order. Back earlier this summer, I painted what was left of the ladder I ran over with the car a couple of yeas ago and it's home for some of my plants. When I saw Jann's arrangement with all her pumpkins and such, I though "I need to borrow that idea!" I expect another few pumps will be on this one before the end of the season!

I got my mask fitted for my radiation which started on October 9. So far, so good. The only disappointment is that the radiation goes till Nov 3 so I won't be able to jazz it up for Halloween. I had plans, too.

Rick and I attended a Great Gatsby gala that our Friends of Theatre group co-hosted at one of Lansing's oldest homes. It was the perfect setting. We didn't have to come in costume but I made an attempt! (I'll have a little more on this soon, too!)

The evening was loads of fun with a Charleston demo and mini-lesson, scenes from the upcoming play, live period jazz and food and wine.

We celebrated Kevin and Molly's birthdays a bit belatedly but with great joy. Of course, one of our most fun parts of the weekend was spending time with the Baby Grand.

Still Smitten.

So is Rick!

I've been doing a lot of research into my family history project and my book is coming. along slow but sure. Definitely not ready for Christmas! (My favorite discovery so far: Stephen Colbert, one of my favorites, is my cousin. Distant cousin -- but we share the same seventh great grandfather!) A little baking, a little reading (do check out "Broken for You" by Stephanie Kallos. A little miracle of a book).

And a lot of decorating! More to come!

Still smiling.

Jeanie, you know how to fun and your smile always makes me smile.

I'll be thinking of you and that radiation treatment. Did the mask make you feel claustrophobic?

That baby is adorable and how he smiles.

Your decorations look wonderful and you really did an outstanding job.

Take care of yourself.

Ok, so I have missed something. Sending love and hugs for the need for radiation. I have flipped back through, but missed where the original post might be. Anyway, whatever you are facing I am sure you have a good support group around you - just looking at your photos lets me know you are well loved. Regardless, I guess you won't mind having me think of you and send my best thoughts and prayers.

I also wanted to say how much I love that Gatsby event and your painting is really impressing me!

Big hugs to you.

What a cute baby grand! So much fun at that age too. I love your Great Gatsby outfit. Did you dance too? I'm sure you had a wonderful time. I love the fall colours too and agree that October is far too short. It is already half finished! Yikes! LOL. I have been enjoying our sunshine as we've had several reprieves from rain.

It looks like other than the radiation, life is good. Your Halloween decorations look great. I've started but still need to finish. And The Great Gatsby Party looks a whole lot of fun. But best of all is the adorable baby Grand. He's getting so big. Keep having fun. Hugs-Erika

First, I want to say how sorry I am for you having to go through all this, Jeanie. The picture broke my heart. I hope all goes well with your treatments.

Your nature pictures are always so pretty....the leaves, and that butterfly! Your grandbaby is so precious. What fun the Great Gatsby Gala must have been. You both look great! I can just see you out there dancing the Charleston. When Jess got married, they did a line dance. My best friend said, "let's get out there and dance." Not knowing it was a line dance, I got out there, and then attempted to not look too out of place. Luckily, Nel was right in front of me, and I could follow her steps. ; )

Sorry you won’t be through until after Halloween. The Gatsby party looks fun and you look great. As always, you made a cool piece at Southern Exposure. That baby just gets cuter and cuter. My favorite piece of info is that you’re related to Stephen Colbert.

Even in the face of all the bad things going on around you this season, you are still being brave and putting on a smile, regardless what comes your way. I love that about you. No matter what, you don't let ANYTHING get you down.

I look forward to your trip to Southern Exposure. That's always a highlight for me to see. I also adore your autumn decorations and I love what you did outside.

Keep smiling and keep hugging that adorable grandchild, too.

Love, love the pictures of "baby grand". Also the party sounds like a very fun one. And then to top it off with a visit to play at your favorite place. So sorry you have to travel through the radiation, but then this will soon be a distant memory and you will be all well. Take care!

You've been busy... Glad it's the good kind of busy, and you've been enjoying the season and your family.

Are you having to have a radiation treatment daily, minus the weekends? Given the timeline and the number of treatments, it must be pretty frequently. I hope you told them not to muss your hair when they put that thing on! I had to laugh -- there's some sort of fruit I've seen in the grocery store that comes in a white netting like that.

Other than that? Your wonderful life continues. And back at Southern Exposure? What could be better?

That Grandbaby steals the show! You could just wear your radiation hood for Halloween. (Hope everything goes smoothly, Jeanie.) I love the idea of your old ladder as part of the decorating scheme.

Hi Jeanie! First, I love the colors of the leaf photo. You took a beautiful photo there. I love close-up shots!

Second, I am sure all will go well with your radiation. I had radiation for tongue cancer back in 2001 and had one of those masks as well. Since that time, I have heard many improvements have been made in the way radiation is administered. I lost my sense of taste for about 6 months. I still have my mask all these years later. One day I imagine I will do something crafty with it. For now, it just sits in my craft room.

Praying that your radiation treatment goes smoothly and you don't suffer any awful side effects.

Sandra Cox said...

I'm glad the radiation treatments are going ok. I'll be glad when you are on the other side of it.

Great pictures! that little baby boy is oh so sweet and adorable! I can see just how much y'all are enjoying him! I've been on vacation and totally missed your post about the treatments you have to get, I am so sorry you have to go through this but I just know that it all will go JUST FINE AND YOU will be stronger, healthier and better than ever! I hope the treatments go by QUICKLY with little or no side effects and that they are the absolute right treatment for you at this time and that this will go smoothly. I love the Gatsby night pictures---so fun! Love the costumes

Aint no radiation alive can keep you down for long. I know a Warrior when I see one.

Jeanie, your flower photos are so, so pretty! And the grandbaby is darling. My grandbabies are no longer babies. The youngest is two and a half so sometimes he needs to be treated like a baby, but he's more "little boy" now. Sniff, sniff! I think he may be the last grandbaby, too. Which is probably best for the mamas, but a little sad for me.

You and Rick look great at the Gatsby party! I think the other reader is right--you sure do know how to have fun!

Hope the radiation goes well. You can use that mask for lots of things after you're done being radiated! Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Hi Jeanie. Good grief, I must have missed the post where you mentioned radiation. Please know I am thinking about you and wishing the very best for you. Your photos, as usual, are above the norm and I love your Gatsby costume. I couldn't help but notice that the baby has the exact same colour of eyes as you. Isn't it amazing how they often favour their grandmothers? I will be looking for further posts from you as autumn progresses.

Your baby grand is utterly adorable. The mask looks a little scary, but it’s good the treatment has started. Thinking of you.

It will be so good to have these treatments behind you. The mask does look a little bit scary! It's good that they are being thorough though so you can make sure the cancer is completely gone!!

Baby Grand is so adorable. I love his blue eyes! I can see both Kevin and Molly in him! The Gatsby party looked like a blast!!!

I hope your radiation is still going well. I'm sorry that it interferes with your Halloween plans. The Baby Grand is so cute! I'm glad things seem to be going well for you. I am so far behind in blog visits, but trying to catch up. Visiting yours is always a pleasure.
