Here's My Heart!

Here's a super-quick project you might want to consider for NEXT Valentine's Day. I'm posting it now because it is the best time to get the best deal on your supplies!

All you need is a heart-shaped candy box, some papers and whatever you'd like to use to trim it with. You can find those heart-shaped candy boxes filled with the most awful candy at drug stores in their Valentine section -- and right now they are at least half (or more) off!

I've been collecting these thinking to teach a workshop for the longest time. The workshop hasn't happened but I finally got one put together for Rick's Valentine's celebration.

First, draw around the top and bottom of the heart box on your chosen paper. This is old wallpaper. Cut out your hearts.Using the insert that is in the boxes (which you will then throw away unless you are giving away truffles), draw and cut out two pieces of the same or coordinating paper for the inside.

(You can also paint if you prefer or collage a variety of your favorite papers and images using a matte medium or Mod Podge.)

Using a glue stick or your favorite "stick-em" method, affix the papers to the top, bottom and inside of the box. Then glue ribbon or paper to the edge of the box.

Then dress it up with lace (hot glued around the edge of the heart) and fun flowers.

Add chocolate, jelly beans or your treat of choice! Voila!

(And if you're really nice, maybe they'll share!)

Oh, this is soooo pretty, Jeanie--beautiful idea! I used to do decoupage many years back, and I'd save heart candy boxes to decorate... this reminded me of that. I had one I made up into a jewelry box. I have no idea where that ended up... LOL! Happy Week ((HUGS))

Maybe there are some heart-shaped boxes at half price with GOOD candy! If you aren't too busy with paczkis for Mardi Gras today. Never an end to holidays with great food ideas!

I love this idea Jeanie and you are right, all those pretty boxes of candy are half off now. I love pretty ribbons and it would be fun to make some of these pretties. Thanks for sharing your idea.

Perfect! If I was closeby and you had this workshop, I'd be there. I definitely will try this. As my new friends are do into handmade things lately that whenever they give me something, it's a handmade or something with personal touch. I already felt a bit shy giving them presents which are too commercialized.

I actually like beautifully designed boxes. I used to have a collection but I stopped because whenever we move from one country to another, I end up leaving them wherever I was leaving from.

Thank you by the way for showing me the site about lily. It was exactly the one.

I'm always looking for ideas for our Christmas bazaar and I would do this with Christmas paper, etc. People could use it for whatever.

Such a great idea and not only for Valentine's but any occasion. It would make a beautiful treasure box for special notes one has received.....

Very nice. I was thinking that it would be cool to make these out of old wallpaper that used to be in my children's bedrooms. Too bad I just got rid of that stuff!

Do I do this after I've eaten all the terrible chocolate already inside? Looks like Rick scored with that big chocolate heart!

Good morning dearest Jeanie! Oh do I ever have to carve out some time to make some goodies for next year....this way got away from me! I wish you another happy and creative day! Anita

Very pretty! I'm such a peasant, I actually like Russell Stover chocolates. Remember when they were the premier chocolates back in the day? I think Godiva is highly over-rated, and over-priced. There's a chocolate shop near us that makes all of theirs on the premises, and they put all others to shame. Yum!

Lovely make Jeanie!

Just got your message.. Yes we are about and really busy, hence being a little slow with our blog.
I will get around to an update very soon. Wishing we could add more hours to the day!

Yes, your Valentine box is so pretty. I could even do this, but the box I have goes back to the chocolate shop every year to be refilled. Must look for one of those marked down boxes.
