Leaf Grief

I love beautiful trees with their brilliant autumn leaves. The towering yellow maple in Rick's yard is my favorite.

And I love shuffling my feet in the leaves as I walk.

I'm always happy to walk in wooded areas, where my camera can capture the changing seasons.

Having said that, I'm grateful my trees have tiny leaves that don't need to be raked. Or else I'd have lots of these!

And really, I'd rather do something else!

Postscript on shuffling: Fun as it is, I'm not recommending it! I've always believed in shuffling your feet as you walk through leaves, letting them rustle, hearing the sound. After all, if you have to take care of them, you may as well also have some fun.

As some of you know, I shuffled along and tripped over uneven walk on Rick's patio (it was covered by leaves and I was dragging my feet).

The result? A fractured "radial head" in my forearm. No surgery needed (sometimes this is the case, I'm told) -- and I'm grateful for that. But have to be careful with it. (He said he wouldn't splint it if I followed order. Yes, sir!)

Pick up your feet!

I love the rustle as well but what bad luck falling. I hope it doesn't put you off enjoying those fab trees though.

That sounds so much like something I would do! I'm glad you don't need surgery, but I hope the pain isn't too bad...stock up on those painkillers!

Oh, I'm so sorry about your tumble on the patio. Darn old leaves covering up the uneven walkway. Those big, old Maple trees really give off the best color, don't they? They light up a neighborhood. Luv the photo of all the bags filled with leaves.

oh boy! there you were having all kinds of fun and you hurt yourself. I am sorry. Hope it feels better soon.

I know what you mean about leaf grief. I am feeling that now as most of the trees are bare. I miss them already.

I am glad you don't need surgery. How lucky to be surrounded by those beautiful trees. Take care of yourself.

I was just saying to HB how much I miss walking in leaves, hearing the crunch underfoot....but I guess there's some danger too. I hope you're doing better. At least no surgery so that's good.

Oh, I am SO sorry you were hurt. Still. I don't think it will cure me of leaf shuffling. Too much pleasure in it.

Oh My! so sorry to hear that ... what lurks beneath those leaves!!!
I enjoy watching the leaves blow away, we do not have a fenced yard and it works fairly well ... until...the neighbor's big black pods rattle across the street clogging up the gutter edge ...
I brought back a bouquet of leaves from my recent visit to VA Tech, have them flattened and waiting for a collaged canvas me thinks!
You take care Jeanie, hope you are not in any pain!

I did that very thing once a few years ago! It's painful and a nuisance ~but mine healed quickly and completely, and I hope yours does too!

I loved the leaf photos..looked just like my backyard until a few hours ago when my lawn crew cleaned it all up.

Wasn't this the most beautiful weekend, though? If only it could last all winter ;)

I am ready to cut some of my trees down in the front yard. I have been battling them all week. Way too many!

Kate told me about your arm and I meant to wish you well sooner. I hope it is healing well.

This has been some amazing weather. Kind of like getting summer in the fall. As for the leaves, this year we broke down and hired a lawn service. Although we did clean the gutters ourselves.
